A
superficial glimpse into online auctions would make it seem as though
eBay is the only thing there is to address. However, there are far
more issues surrounding online auctions, as discussed in our portal
project. Issues include the legal concerns surrounding consumer auctions,
such as fraud, and the failure of many eB2B exchanges. For the purposes
of the report, we have decided to break our topic, online auctions,
into three different categories: Consumer to Consumer (C2C),
Business to Consumer (B2C), and Business
to Business (B2B).
Most
realize the impact of electronic commerce (See Forbes "Best
of the Web 2002" for a variety of successful electronic
marketplaces), but may not yet be aware of the legal impacts and
responsibilities. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) posts the following
information to help consumers be aware of fraud in online auctions.
This provides valuable advice and a good overview for both buyers
and sellers. (See
the FTC Guide to Online Buying and Selling)
In
this portal, we provide an overview to each type of auction and
the legal issues that surround them. Specifically, we address the
buyers, sellers, payment methods, legal issues, and future trends
of these auctions. Our goal is to make the reader more comfortable
with online buying and sellinig, while making clear the legal issues
that may concern them.
